Happy Birthday, Leo Nucci!

Buon compleanno, Leo Nucci!

Today is April 16th and is the birthday of one of the greatest Italian baritones of modern opera, Leo Nucci!

Leo Nucci is one of my all time favorite baritones, he not only has a very beautiful voice, but he also has an extraordinary acting talent.

In my opinion, he is the greatest “Rigoletto” ever.

The first time that I saw Leo Nucci perform was as Renato in Verdi’s “Un Ballo in Maschera” at the MET.

Since then, I got very impressed with Nucci’s voice and talent! I became a fan.

His repertoire encompasses the entire Italian repertory from bel canto to verismo, but his sonorous voice, secure technique and dramatic abilities are best displayed in Verdi – notably as Rigoletto, Macbeth, Count di Luna, Giorgo Germont, Rodrigo, Amonasro, Iago, and Falstaff.

He has sung the role of Rigoletto alone more than 400 times.

He is also the greatest Nabucco ever and my favorite Figaro from Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia”.
