Der Ring des Nibelungen.
Richard Wagner, a genius of Opera!
Der Ring des Nibelungen (The Ring of the Nibelung) is a cycle of four epic operas by the German composer Richard Wagner (1813–1883).
The works are based on characters from the Norse sagas and the Nibelungenlied.
Richard Wagner termed the cycle a “Bühnenfestspiel” (stage festival play), structured in three days preceded by a Vorabend (“ante-evening”).
It is often referred to as the Ring Cycle, Wagner’s Ring, or simply the Ring.
The DVD-Set Poster of Wagner’s “Ring Cycle” monumental production at the MET in 1990.
Many extraordinary opera stars are wonderful in this magnificent production like
James Morris, Hildegard Behrens, Sigfried Jerusalem, Jessye Norman,
Gary Lakes, Christa Ludwig, Matti Salminen, Kurt Moll and more.
In my opinion, this is the BEST production ever of the “Ring Cycle”.
The MET 2010 spectacular production of the “Ring Cycle” is
my second favorite after the 1990 production.
This is the second best production ever of Wagner’s “Ring”.
It also includes a special documentary of “Wagner’s Dream, the making of the Ring”.

The famous and controversial Pierre Boulez-Patrice Chéreau
“Ring Cycle” production in Bayreuth, 1980.
Pierre Boulez and Patrice Chéreau’s post-industrial revolution Ring as metaphor for the decline and fall of capitalism is certainly one the most controversial Ring productions.
But I still like it and it’s my third favorite “Ring Cycle”, after the MET’s 1990 and 2010 productions.
Bayreuth in 1882, Wagner himself conceived and promoted the idea of a
special festival to showcase his own works, in particular his monumental cycle
Der Ring des Nibelungen and Parsifal.
Wagner personally supervised the design and construction of the theatre, which contained many architectural innovations to accommodate the huge orchestras for which Wagner wrote as well as the composer’s particular vision about the staging of his works.
Bayreuth, a sanctuary for Wagnerians.
Long live Wagner, his talent, drama and music!
