Verdi vs Wagner part 5, great Tenors: Jonas Kaufmann!

Verdi vs Wagner part 5:

Verdi 200. Wagner 200.

Now it’s the turn to talk about of one of the greatest Tenors of both the Wagnerian and Verdinian repertoire, Jonas Kaufmann!

Not many opera singers can perform very well in  many different languages and also it’s rare to see a Tenor that has a very wide repertoire from many different composers, only veteran Plácido Domingo and today’s opera super star Jonas Kaufmann have that privilege.

Jonas Kaufmann has a very versatile operatic career, from Mozart, Puccini, Smetana, Monteverdi, Rossini and Beethoven, to Bizet, Gounod, Massenet, Strauss, Cilea, Paisiello and of course, Verdi and Wagner!

Jonas Kaufmann has performed many, many different operatic roles, Wagnerian roles: Parsifal, Lohengrin, Siegmund and Walther.  Verdinian roles: Don Carlo, Manrico, the Duque of Mantova, Alfredo, Cassio and Fenton.

All of us fell in love with Jonas Kaufmann’s performance as “Siegmund” in the new grand production of the MET of Wagner’s “Ring Cycle”, “Die Walküre” in 2010.

Here, a picture of Jonas Kaufmann as Siegmund.

But also, he is one of the greatest singers of the Verdinian repertoire:

Here, a picture of Jonas Kaufmann as Don Carlo.

Jonas Kaufmann is now one of the greatest stars of modern opera.

He is a future Legend.

Jonas Kaufmann, both Wagner and Verdi would have been so proud of him!
